The Lithica Gathering

A week of Rewilding, Nature, Workshops, Storytelling, Sharing & Community in Scandinavia.

Who among us has not thought from time to time how much more fulfilling and fun it would be to live as a clan where we share skills, stories, songs, laughter, tears, meals, chores and so much more with a multi-generational group in a natural, pristine environment?

We have often pondered ourselves: why is it that some of the few wild places left on Earth are preserved for wild animals and wild plants but not for wild humans?

The gatherings are the beginning of our vision of Rewilding Humans. To become a community that is excited to invest in creating and living on the first Lithica Land.

Looking forward to meeting you around fire!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The Lithica Gathering will take place at the rustic, scenic wild camping spot Steinhole Fjellcamp in Norway. It is located near the Sjoa River in the Jotunheimen mountain area, near Tessanden/ Vågå.

The exact location link is HERE.

  • The most convenient airport is Oslo Gardermoen. From there you can continue your journey on the train to Otta or Gjendesheim.

You can then take the bus from Gjendesheim to Hindseter or a bus from Otta to Hindseter.

The Gathering venue is about 2,5 km from the Hindseter.

We will provide free transportation from Hindseter to the Gathering site.

  • You can reach the destination by car. From Gardermoen airport in Oslo the car ride is approximately four hours.

  • The arrival day is Monday 6th July. We will be ready to welcome you from 11am onwards. We advise that you arrive at 4pm the latests to be on time for the opening ceremony.

We will host an opening circle at 5pm, which will be followed by the dinner.

  • We will held a closing ceremony on Sunday 12th July at 12noon. There will be time after the ceremony to pack and leave the site by 4pm.

  • After registration we can add you to the list of participants interested in sharing a ride. You need to let us know during the registration that you are interested in car sharing.

  • What’s included:

    • Camping on site is free, bring your own tent and equipment

    • Participation in classes, workshops and events

    • One communal dinner per day

      What’s not included:

    • Travel to and from site

    • Bring your own snacks, breakfast and lunch

  • No, not at all! The Gathering is for everyone interested in the idea of Lithica and who wants to learn more about primitive skills.

Bring your modern (outdoor) clothes and gear in which you feel most comfortable to spend a week in nature.

We do encourage you to try to have mostly natural colours and materials and minimise plastics.

All activities are guided, and curiosity and an open mind are all you need to bring.

  • There is one communal meal a day planned in the evening, which is included in the registration fee. This will be (partly) prepared during some of the workshops. We ask you to bring your own bowl, cup and utensils.

All communal meals will be delicious vegetables with separate animal protein. If you are vegetarian or vegan please bring your own protein.

Breakfast, lunch and snacks you’ll bring yourself. If you want to cook any of these meals we ask you to bring your own camping gas-cooker, since their won’t be a communal kitchen and because of fire regulations it is not possible to have multiple personal campfires on the grounds.

There is wild drinking water available.

  • We created a packlist for you.

We also encourage you to bring your own naturally made products to trade. We will host one evening during the Gathering when instructors and participants can trade and/or sell their products to others. It may be handy to bring some cash with you

  • As we say here in Scandinavia: “There is no such things as bad weather, only bad clothing.” Which is absolutely true!

You should prepare for all kinds of weather, from lovely warm and sunny days of 30 ºC to colder nights where temperatures can drop below 10 ºC. Bring a warm sweater, a raincoat and a summer dress is our advice!

  • Mosquitos, gnats and horseflies are a normal occurrence, and very much dependent on the weather and temperatures. Bring a gnats net for the night, some natural insect repellent and sit next to the smoke of the main campfire. If you are very sensitive to insect bites you may want to bring a hat with a face net for the morning and evening hours when insects are most active.

We also recommend having light longsleeve clothing to avoid getting bitten.

  • There will be workshops in the mornings and afternoons on Tuesday and Wednesday, with some extra activities in the evenings.

A lunch break is scheduled in the middle of the day when there will be no workshops.

There will be designated day - Thursday 9th July - where there will be an open forum for participants to share or just take time off for themselves.

There will be workshops in the mornings only on Friday and Saturday, with time allowed to finish off projects, share skills and experiences and build more connections.

We will gather around the main fire in the evenings and sing, play and dance.

  • In keeping with the stone-age community spirit, we’ll need some help with chores. You will be designated to a ‘clan’ on the first day and your clan leaders will let you know how we can all help each other to keep the camp running smoothly.

  • No - this is an alcohol and drug free event.

  • All workshops and communication will be in English, since we have an international team of instructors.

  • Our aim is to keep device use to a minimum and we ask that you do not sit around the public spaces using your phone.

  • Our Gathering is a family friendly meeting. We believe that nature in general is a magical space for children, so we don’t have an age-limit and we welcome families with children.

We remind you however, that bringing your toddler or child is completely your own responsibility. We ask you to have them in your care the whole time.

Remember that the surroundings are going to be primitive, so make sure you and your child are going to be comfortable with this.

  • No, the Gathering does not permit dogs.

  • Participants are required to have their own travel and healthcare insurance. Make sure it covers emergency transportation.

There is a medical office in Vågåmo (approx. 40 km) and the nearest hospital is in Lillehammer (approx. 143 km).
